A lot of users confused and don’t understand why the database does not appear on the target server when they do deploy.

The reason is that in CTP 16, the default deploy mechanism is to deploy to script. If you want to deploy to database you have to change the ‘Deploy action’ on the project properties, deploy tab to ‘Create a deployment script (.sql) and deploy to the database.’

Hi Maor, I found your article as I was surfing the web for info on Database Edition 2008 deployment settings. Unfortunately, my problem is that I don’t have a “Deploy” tab in the project settings for the database project. So how do I change the deployment settings? I have a “Build” tab where I can change the target connection and build output file name, but how do I select what it should use? – And more importantly, how can I change between my local settings and our project settings? According to the MSDN on Database Edition 2008 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa833291.aspx) this should all be available on the “Deploy” tab. But this tab just doesn’t exist in my project settings. I have “Project settings”, “Database Properties”, “Build Events”, “Filegroups”, “References”, “Build” and “Variables”. But no “Deploy” tab.

Can you give me a piece of advice or maybe a pointer in the right direction?

    Thank you so much.

    Best regards
    René

I’m sorry, please ignore my last comment. I was sure I was using the latest version of Visual Studio and Database Edition, but I was wrong. So I updated and voilá! The “Deploy” tab appeared.
